Choosing the location for your family reunion will likely depend on the geographic dispersion of your extended family as well as other factors. You will also need to consider the schedule of your extended family's school age children. Access to the location by your extended family will effect their ability to attend due to costs. Cost is a significant factor because you don't want cost to keep any of your family from attending.

The amenities of the location should include a sufficiently safe area where children can play while their parents visit with relatives. Our last reunion was held at a hotel with a large covered atrium area which contained a swimming pool, shuffle board, and other activities for the kids. Since this area was enclosed by the hotel, there was a nice place for relatives to gather, cousins to play and safely enjoy their family.

The location should also accommodate excursions to museums, sightseeing, shopping and other entertainment by family groups or individual families. It should also be close enough to golf courses, bikes, horses, etc. so there is adequate recreation to be explored by groups of family members and individual families.

The weather and elevation of your location should also be considered. The temperature should be moderate and the elevation should be reasonable (usually less than 6000 feet) to accomodate those family members who would not be comfortable with higher elevations.
