Valentines Party Ideas
February 14th is a day of cards, gifts, chocolates and flowers given to those we love in the name of St. Valentine. St Valentine was the 3rd century priest who continued marrying young couples after the emperor's decree that marriages were to cease. For his heroic deeds during this period of injustice, St. Valentine was put to death but will always be remembered as one who put love first. Increase the romance in your family's life by celebrating this Valentines Day.
Valentines Party Ideas :
Costumes
Have those attending the party come dressed in red and white with as many hearts, heart acccessories, etc. as possible. Give a prize to the guest wearing the most hearts.
The Sense of Smell
Fragrances create magical memories for valentines parties. Their effects on moods of your guests will play a major role in their memories of your party. Among the fragrances you might consider for Valentines are Jasmine, Musk, Roses, Gardenias, or Lavender.
Arrival
As guests arrive, give them each a name card with a valentines joke or valentines saying written on the back. Then send them to a table where they can guess the number of candy hearts in the jar and write the number on the back of their badges. Later in the party, have the guests read their Valentines jokes to the group. Be creative and use your imagination with the jokes.
Invitations
Since Valentine's Day is the sweetest of all reasons to have a party, you definitely want to send out invitations with a personal touch. Send your party guests an invitation they can eat. This invitation consists of a small heart shaped box of candy with your heart shaped invitation attached to the top. Another neat invitation to your family's party is a heart with a picture of your family in the center created on your personal computer..
Decorations
Red Roses are a nice decorative element. You might even use them floating in a bowls as table centerpieces. Other ideas include cutouts of cupids, hearts, or doves. Red and white balloons are another special idea.
If you have chosen an unusual theme, you should include decorations that support the theme. For instance, if your theme is Love is Paris, you should include pictures of the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame, famous bridges, museums and parks. For a theme like Cupid's Challenge, you'll want lots of imagery like cupid with a bow and arrow and hearts as targets.
Decoration with Valentine's Day cards adds a special touch to your decour. You can place them on your dining table, tape them to your refrigerator door or bathroom mirror, and stand them up on your fireplace mantle. You might also want to consider hanging cutouts of Cupid standing in bundles of mistletoe.
Sounds and Lights
There is no substitution for good music to create the mood for your party. For romantic parties, play romantic background music. More lively parties might be better suited to lighter music. For your children, you might want to use some Disney music from one of the princess movies.
Lighting is also an important element in setting the mood for your party. Dim lights, candles, strings of white lights, etc can create a nice atmosphere.
Activities
Kiss Her Quick - put your guests in a number of chairs. Before the party, hide Hershey Kisses in a number of places around the party area. Tell your male guests that when the music starts, them will leave their seats and find as many Hershey's Kisses as they can for their sweethearts. When the music stops, they must return to their chairs and make a gift of their Kisses to their sweetheart.
Discovery - Pick a number of words associated with Valentines Day such as: Valentine, Heart, Cupid, Heart etc. and write them on the back of cut out hearts. Put the hearts in a deck to be drawn by your guests. As each guest pulls a card, they have 30 seconds to come up with as many words as possible using the letters of the word on their card. Provide a bag of M&Ms or Red Hots to the winner.
So Many Kisses - put a large number of Hershey's Kisses in a jar. Make sure you carefully count the number of Kisses and record the number. As they arrive, ask your guests to visit the jar, write their name and best guess as to how many hearts are in the jar and put their piece of paper into a slotted box beside the jar. At some point during the party, open the box and give the jar of kisses to the person or persons with the closest guess.
Cupid's Bingo - Make your own heart shaped Bingo cards using your computer and printer. You can use M&Ms or Red Hots candies as the card markers. Play just like normal Bingo.
Prince Charming and the Glass Slipper - divide your guests into couples with the girls sitting in a circle and the boys on their knees in front of them. Have the boys take off their partner's shoes and throw them in the center of the circle. Blindfold the boys. Guided by their girl partner's voice, the boys try to locate their partner's shoes and return to their partner putting on their shoes. The winner is the first boy to put their partner's shoes on correctly. You should continue the game until the last couple does it right.
